Master in Biometry (MBIO)

Objectives
The overall objective of this Master is to increase the capacity and research potential of universities and research centres in West Africa through training of experts that can effectively advise researchers in the design of their research work and analysis and reporting of data. Specifically the Master program aims at increasing the availability of biometricians in African research centers, universities and other professional sectors that usually deal with the management and analysis of data for agricultural sector, but with application other sectors including studying social processes.

Learning outcomes
Graduates of this program have diversified opportunities in universities as researchers and at research centres in West Africa as biometricians are very scarce in the region. This is also true of other regions in Africa. They can also work in ministries and other professional sectors that deal with databases management and analysis. Further, graduates can have opportunities to pursue their PhD studies particularly in the same area applied to agriculture, natural resources management, conservation sciences, climate change and economy.

Structure and content:
The program is implemented by the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences, University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin). The covered subjects are related to mathematics, mathematical statistics, data analysis, partial differential equation, probability, linear model, multivariate statistical methods, design of experiments, quantitative genetics, databases management, statistical software and programming language, survival analysis, sampling and re-sampling methods, time series, econometric, MSP, Bayesian methods. These courses are provided through theoretical courses, practical works and personal student works. This Master program is assessed on the basis of performance in the research project, continual assessment of coursework, and examination covering the programme as a whole. It is a two year programme which includes a Research project in Year 2.
